Welcome to the Technion Biofluids Laboratory

The Technion Biofluids Laboratory, directed by Prof. Josué Sznitman, examines a broad range of fluid flows relevant to biology and physiology. Our interdisciplinary research interests focus primarily on respiratory flows in the lungs in association with targeted delivery of therapeutics (inhalation aerosols) and small-scale physiological flows using microfluidic techniques.

Our research lies at the crossroads of biomedical engineering and life sciences. Driven by a desire to uncover the scientific underpinnings of respiratory phenomena, we leverage such knowledge towards novel strategies for delivering pulmonary therapies. Our interdisciplinary team bridges expertise spanning bioengineering, nanotechnology and cell physiology. Our methodologies integrate cellular in vitro experiments and in silico simulations to devise biologically functional lung models, with broad applications including inhalation aerosols, drug screening as well as cytotoxicity following lung exposure to health threats. Given the complexity of this organ, our strength revolves around a multiscale approach, from the alveolar airway microscales to macroscopic whole-organ models.
